Allerdale Borough Council appoints Tivoli as its integrated street scene contractor

Tivoli is set to continue its 15-year collaboration with Allerdale Borough Council with the award of the Council’s Integrated Street Scene contract, which will see grounds maintenance and street cleansing services merge for the first time. The contract commenced on 1st April 2019 and will run for an initial eight-year period with an option to extend for a further eight years.

Tivoli has been maintaining a number of the Borough’s public parks, open spaces, play areas, leisure and sports facilities, cemeteries and sheltered dwellings since 2003. From April 2019, Tivoli, using multi-skilled teams, will additionally deliver litter picking, fly-tipping, chewing gum removal and the cleansing of all footpaths, highways, road and precincts etc.

A key and successful element of Tivoli’s bid was the innovation surrounding the mechanisation of the cleansing routes; the introduction of a rapid response team able to tackle street scene issues quickly and efficiently; and the staggered shift patterns which will ensure key areas are cleaned to a high standard prior to 8am and that all areas are cleaned throughout the day and into the evening.

Tivoli will also continue to work with local volunteer groups, Town and Parish Councils and Allerdale Borough Council to support community clean-up schemes and other community led events to ensure that Allerdale’s town centres are attractive and welcoming, meet the Council’s priorities, and engage with the local residents.

Charles Holmes, Head of Community Services at Allerdale Borough Council, said: “Allerdale are very much looking forward to this new phase of working in collaboration with Tivoli and the integrated approach that is being taken leading to clean streets and well maintained open spaces across the Borough, as we recognise just how important a clean and green environment contributes towards improving the lives of local people and visitors”.

Rick Francis, Chairman, Tivoli said: “We are delighted to be awarded this integrated street scene contract and will continue to deliver services to the highest possible standard. We have a strong and established relationship with Allerdale Borough Council, which has allowed us to work closely with them to meet challenging targets and ensure that efficiency and sustainability are at the core of our partnership, and we will continue to build on this in the coming years.”
